Tech Support

From the syllabus

Technology problems are not an excuse for late assignments, and Dr. Gill does not provide tech support. Use the contacts below for technical issues with UNCW systems or Canvas.

Technology Requirements

It is the student's responsibility to have electronic equipment, in good working order, to participate fully in this course. Students must have at a minimum, a working computer with speakers and a microphone. Students without personal electronic equipment must make arrangements to use equipment at the university or other locations. Lack of access to equipment will not be accepted as a reason for not participating in the course requirements.

Canvas Help

Common Canvas tasks

Video Discussions

Discussions happen inside Canvas. You record or upload your video with the media button in the Canvas editor, so there is no separate account and no extra login. Camera and microphone permissions must be allowed in your browser before you record. The most reliable browsers are current versions of Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.

Common Problems

Submission did not upload

  1. Refresh the page and confirm Canvas shows the submission timestamp.
  2. If no timestamp appears, the file did not upload. Re-attempt with a smaller file or a different browser.
  3. If the second attempt also fails, contact TAC@uncw.edu immediately and copy Dr. Gill on the email.

A video will not record

  1. Check browser permissions for camera and microphone.
  2. Switch to a current version of Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
  3. Restart the browser.
  4. If recording still fails, email TAC@uncw.edu.
A reminder

Technology problems are not an excuse for late assignments. Submit early, check the timestamp, and document tech failures with screenshots if you need to appeal.
